The George Bouttell Scholarship
LPM Entrance Scholarship Program
March, 2001

History:

The Little People of Manitoba Scholarship Program is named for George Bouttell, the founding member and first President of LPM. The money for the Scholarship Fund is generated through fund raising activities of the Club, as well as revenues from the 2000 National Conference held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, during the summer of 2000. A Scholarship Committee administers the Program and its funds. The Committee consists of two members and a chairperson, to be elected for a period of three years.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to provide entrance scholarships to LPM teenaged members who are contemplating furthering their education and pursuing post-secondary opportunities at the university or college level, or in vocational education or skill training programs, which will enable them to reach professional goals and secure satisfying employment. It is foreseen that in the future more than one scholarship may be awarded in any given year, subject to available funds.

Funding:

The capital required to have a self-supporting financial program is estimated at Ten Thousand ($10,000.00) dollars, and can be raised through regular fund raising activities of the Club, organization of special events or donations from members, friends or organizations. All donations to the scholarship fund are tax deductible.

Who Can Apply:

LPM members of short stature and other short statured people of Manitoba who have completed High School and are in the process of entering a post-secondary institution are encouraged to apply. All applicants must be residents of Manitoba. Preference will be given to members of LPM in good standing with one or more years of membership.

Amount:

The initial value of the Scholarship is Five Hundred ($500.00) dollars for the year 2001. From time to time, the value of the scholarship may be adjusted to take into consideration annual inflation rates and increasing costs for tuition and books. The LPM Scholarship is not a grant based on financial need.

Process:

Once a year, LPM accepts applications for one or more scholarships, to be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The applications must be submitted by May 1st. The Committee will meet before May 21st and will advise the applicants of their selection by June 1st.

Applicants must submit

  1. A completed Application Form.

  2. A copy of their last academic transcript.

  3. Two letters of recommendation; one from a friend, relative, teacher or school counsellor, and the second from a member of LPM in good standing.

Preference will be given to applicants pursuing post-secondary education over those applying to vocational school or institutions of private tutelage.

Members of LPM in good standing will have preference over other candidates.

A successful applicant can only be awarded one LPM Entrance Scholarship.
